Known as the “Godfather” of PSAL girls’ basketball, Coach Barney Davis exemplified excellence on and off the court. His passion and exuberance for the game was magnified in his love and dedication to his girls basketball program MIKA. His commitment to his players and students transcended basketball. Barney’s vision was that all players needed to succeed academically and athletically in order to reach their goals. This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Coach Barney Davis by supporting student athletes in their pursuit of a skilled trade or higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:

Current or former MIKA team members who are active and in good standing with the organization

(i.e. attends practice)

Education Level: Students who have graduated or are in pursuit of continuing education as

follows:

• High school graduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any discipline

• Skilled trade

• Master’s Degree

• Doctoral Candidate

GPA: High school students are required to have an overall minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

College/ Skilled trade students are required to have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0

scale or equivalent

Volunteer: Students are required to provide written documentation confirming twenty (20) hours

of community service within the academic year prior to application submission.

Personal Statement:

• Students are required to provide a personal written statement (500 word minimum) about

the following topic “A Chain is Only as STRONG as it’s Weakest Link”. Explain how this

resonates with you and your experiences as a student-athlete AND

• Students are required to provide a personal statement by video (up to 3 minutes)

explaining how joining MIKA has made an impact on your life and why you would be a good candidate for the scholarship.
